On October 23, 2024, (or maybe it was the 24th) I encountered a perplexing issue with Google Chrome that many users may face: a sudden change in profile settings and the mysterious appearance of a “Person 1” account.

This article recounts my experience and how I resolved it, hoping to assist others who might find themselves in a similar predicament.

The Initial (Possible) Glitch

After opening Chrome on my laptop, I noticed an unusual message, which I didn’t read thoroughly.

Soon after, I realized that my usual profile was altered, and all my bookmarks were mysteriously relocated to a newly created account labeled “Person 1.”

This account was foreign to me, and it felt as though my browsing identity had been compromised.

Investigating the Issue

Determined to regain control, I navigated through Chrome’s settings. I discovered that my old profile still existed, but it appeared empty. It became clear that something had gone awry — perhaps a recent update or glitch in the system.
