On Friday, an explosion occurred at a chocolate factory in West Reading, Pennsylvania. The incident has left four people dead. There’s also several people who suffered injuries, and there are four others missing.

Officials on Saturday held a press briefing. They said that they did find one person alive overnight. The person was found amongst the rubble.

The West Reading Borough fire chief said the chances of finding anymore survivors were declining. This is because of how much time has passed, as well as the severity of the explosion. The chief added that their main goal is to account for all missing individuals.

The Affected Factory

The factory where the explosion occurred is R.M. Palmer. Seasonal chocolates are manufactured there. This includes chocolate for Halloween, Easter and Christmas. Around 800 people work in the factory, which has been in West Reading for over 50 years. R.M. Palmer is known for always being an upstanding member of West Reading, according to a West Reading Borough Council member.

What Caused The Explosion

At the time of this writing, it’s not known what caused the explosion. However, an investigation has been launched, and all possible causes will be looked into.

My Thoughts

This is such a horrible and unfortunate situation. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is affected by the explosion at the factory. This is really heartbreaking news, and I hope the families of those impacted cope the best way they can.

Hopefully officials figure out what caused the explosion. But for now it’ll be a little bit of a waiting game to find out the exact cause.
